On the same day, 25 July 2017, current FLOTUS, Melania Trump, and her predecessor, Michelle Obama, chose dreamy pink floral dresses to talk to America.
No! they did not coordinate (so, no dressgate, here), but I wondered whether the choice is not a innate instinct that we, women, have: always face adversity and scrutiny with a stoic smile, or …. a flower print … one day at a time. That seems to me the fashion lesson of July 2017.
During a conversation with WFCO’s President Lauren Y Casteel in Denver, Colorado, Ms. Obama cited racism as the deepest pain she experienced as a First Lady.
That same evening Melania Trump, an immigrant with fear of public speaking and a very heavy eastern European accent, praised her husband’s work on behalf of the country at a #MakeAmricaGreatAgain rally. Pose and think about it for a moment! President Trump’s sole “achievement” so far is a fierce crackdown on immigration.
Yet, both women addressed deeply personal struggles wearing bright and cheerful summer dresses that, when you look at it– makes you scream for a vacation. Is it that pink flower print is the 2017 armor we are all looking for? But enough political ruminations … Both women looked stunning despite having a very different personal style. Michelle chose a playful silk Cara dress from Tanya Taylor
While Melania opted for a bold flower print with laser cut details from Monique Lhuillier’s Resort 2017 Collection.
